Empire Avenue: A Game That Increases Social Productivity?

Amidst my recent acquisition of a Twitter account, I have found myself getting involved in more and more online social activities that I’d normally never have bothered with prior to the aforementioned event.

An oddity, perhaps, or maybe Twitter encourages you to be more interactive and social (at least online) than you’ve previously committed to.

Empire Avenue

Empire Avenue, an intriguing idea.

So – something I stumbled upon a few days ago was a game called “Empire Avenue.” I had seen a few tweets related to the game and eventually, curiosity got the better of me. I signed up and began to explore just what the hell this game was.

Britain: Do We Care About Our Language Skills?

Pen to Paper

Do Brits even care about their language skills anymore?

Honestly? I don’t think half of Britain gives a rat’s arse whether they’re communicating in a proper way or not.

Look, I know this makes me sound like a pretentious prick. I don’t claim to produce perfectly constructed writings, status updates or messages, but hey, I try.

The problem I have is with the oafs that constantly spew poor English wherever they go, without a care for bettering their language skills at all. They don’t try and they most certainly couldn’t give two shits about it either. Unfortunately, it seems that the British population is saturated with people that hold the same notion.

Considering we’re living in a ‘facebook world’ whereby textual communication plays a large part in our lives, you’d think that emphasis on properly communicating would be more evident than it is. Read the rest of this entry

Down With the Kids: Rollerblading is Gay

Rollerblading guy

A picture of a guy that seems to be confirming the suspicions of the sexual preference of those that advocate the activity.

Yep. Apparently it is. Don’t worry, it’s news to me too.

And no, I don’t mean ‘gay’ in the sense of it being a ‘wondrous, happy activity’.

According to the fine and reliable source of the Interwebs, the enjoyable activity of traversing the concrete strands we call ‘pavements’ on some boots with wheels stuck on them is strictly reserved for men that like to fondle other men. This came as a surprise to me, as I wasn’t aware of the existence of this stigma or anything similar with relation to rollerblading.

UK Riots: Why A Social Network-wide Closure Won’t Help

Property on fire - London

"London's Burning" - A building meets its fiery death in the midst of rioting

As I’m sure you’ve heard by now, knuckle-dragging heathens have been filling our streets with violence, pillaging and looting. Assorted cities and areas have been hit with a wave of devastation and unruliness, although this is steadily being quashed by the long arm of the law. Over 16,000 police officers were dispatched to London last night – just to give you an idea of the enormity of this situation.

The pictures snapped by keen photographers display a shocking aftermath. I am finding it hard to take in what I’m seeing as a tangible occurrence. We see buildings exploding, citizens rioting and people dying all the time in action movies and we accept this as the ‘norm’ within that realm, but when it becomes intertwined with your everyday life, it suddenly becomes a different story all together.

Is Twitter The Perfect Affiliate Marketing Platform?

So I’ve been a little obsessed with Twitter just lately.

I’ve been exploring the avenues that it has to offer and the one I’ve been stuck down is this ‘affiliate marketing’ business that seems to be so prominent around the Twitterverse. I have no doubt that making money from interacting with a social network would be a rather attractive prospect for quite a few people.

Twitter Inc. Logo

Twitter Inc. - The microblogging giant

Twitter is a web-based social networking and microblogging service that allows users to send, receive and share short, punchy messages with their friends and followers. The 140 character limit to messages gives a certain allure and uniqueness that other social networking sites (such as Facebook & Google+) can’t offer. Boasting over 200 million users and counting, Twitter has become a force to be reckoned with on the social networking scene since its launch in the spring of 2006.  Read the rest of this entry

If You’re Not A Customer, Do They Care About You?

Well, do they?

I’m left feeling rather peeved that I’ve yet to receive a response from a company after patiently waiting over a week. It was quite unlikely that I would have conducted business with them, however a courteous reply would have been nice; in fact, any reply would been appreciated.

Let me get you up to speed instead of speaking in Parseltongue (oh dear a Harry Potter reference so early in the morning? That surely cannot be good for the soul…).  Read the rest of this entry

A Formal Introduction? Not Quite…

Spark

I’ve finally done it.

For a while now, the urge to splurge my thoughts somewhere on the Internet has been slowly growing and today, I finally caved in to curiosity. I delved deep into the caves of WordPress and carved my stamp into what I can call ‘my corner’ of the vast web ecosystem.
